The human rights record for treating disabled people well is not very good in China is it? Wasn't there also some controversy early on about disabled athletes being referred to in a disrespectful manner by the Chinese Games organisers?

  1. human rights record for not treating disabled ppl rite? and where did you get that from? do they round up crippled ppl on the street and torture them in prisons?

Please remember that the son of DengXiaoPing is wheelchaired himself and an advocate for disabled ppl in china.

  2. To all those of you who answered no, have you actually checked out the Athens 2004 Paralympics medal tally?

China came first with 63 gold medals (141 total). GB was a distant second with 35 gold (94 total).

So to those who say that China treats disabled people poorly, please actually understand more about China before making erroneous assumptions based on hearsay and what the media tells us.

  3. well it depends on if they participate.

If they do, then yea, they will probably do well because i've heard that China trains their Olympians to get gold or nothing.

    Hope this helps

  4. naw doubt it

  5. In the early 70s I had the privilege and honour to assist at the Paraplegic Games at Stoke Manderville. Although everyone was proud to represent their own country the whole feel was that nobody cared who won what, as long as they all did their best and competed fairly.

I hope that attitude still stands today.

  6. no, human rights is very terrible there. i dont know bout the controversey but after this olympics, i know one of two things will happen: bc of how china is, it aint gonna participate OR will spend billions of dollars on athletes to try and get gold medals for that too

  7. with that reasoning i would say no

  8. I don't think so. Disabled events don't bring the same prestige and media attention so I doubt if the Chinese will have spent much money on encouraging disabled athletes.
