Will Claire Hanna be added to the National Team roster?
The 25-year old Canadian Volleyball Player, Claire Henna suffered from a severe disorder in 2010.
She was playing at a promotional volleyball tournament in Thunder Bay, when she suffered from chest pains and later she was diagnosed with a collapsed lung. The two-time national player from Vancouver city went through a scary situation. She was immediately
hospitalised and had to undergo a surgery. The infected part of her lung was then removed and Henna cured from the disarray. She stayed at the hospital for about a week and resumed full-time training six weeks later.
The revelation of collapsed lung and surgery put a big question mark on her participation in the upcoming season of volleyball. Speaking of her fears, she stated, “The doctors told me that I would make a full recovery but I was worried this season would
be compromised. I’m pretty happy with how I’ve come back. It was only a few months ago I was full of tubes and being stuck with needles.”
However, Henna fully recovered and she is currently attending the National Team Selection Camp at the Frank Kennedy Centre in University of Manitoba. The Selection camp was officially started on Monday, May 16 and it will be continued until Thursday. At
the end of selection camp, Canada’s Senior ‘A’ Team roster will be finalised. In addition to the selection of ‘A’ Team, the development ‘B’ Team will also be selected. Athletes from all famous Canadian universities are attending the selection camp. Henna is
top a contender from the University of British Colombia.
Henna has played in the national team and she is also regarded as the former star player of University of British Colombia. She plays at the libero position and is quite efficient with her mesmerising skills. She put up a great performance during the last
season and settled for the 2010 Libero of the Year in Canadian University Volleyball. Moreover, she was also named as the top Libero in the Canada West conference in last two years.
During the last two days of the selection camp, she has been impressive. Nevertheless, it was big step for Henna to undergo a tough physical test. A fear lurked on her but she controlled her movement and successfully completed the test.
She shared her thoughts after the test and said, “I got some similar feelings to when the lung was collapsed but the doctor told me that could happen at times and I just kept that in mind. The tests went super well.”
Henna is tipped to find a place on the national team roster. Let’s see if she does.
