  1. As long as he keeps winning, he will end up at number one. If he keeps winning, then that means he is doing it against the best in the welterweight division and that's a deep division. To some though, Cotto could already be number one. Also, it's possible that Manny Pacquiao or undefeated Joe Calzaghe could end up losing their one of their next couple of matches.

  2. Many already see Cotto already as number one and he should definitely be in that conversation but i dont see a problem with Paquiao holding that title but i belive Cotto could be on everybodies number one by 2009 if he's wins out in 08.

When you consider that if he does he would have an impressive list of wins Vs. Quintana(The only guy to beat Williams),Torres and Malinaggi (Who have both yet to lose to anyone other then Cotto), Urkal,Judah,Mosley (All former Champions) and possibly Margarito and De La Hoya. This list is more stacked then say David Haye or Kelly Pavlik

with 09 having possible opponents of Paquiao,Hatton,Berto,Williams or Clottey.

As far Matthew P saying Haye and Pavlik are making history im not sure i agree with that. I do belive pavlik will get better but so far his biggest test has been Taylor and i think we should wait to see him fight the Abraham's and Kessler's first and David Haye fighting 36 yr old Jean Marc Mormeck in France isnt quite historic to me. Im not saying he's not a great talent i just dont think he's Automatically head of Cotto on the Pound for Pound list. Or even in the disscusion

  3. I'll put him there if he beats Margarito in 4 weeks.

  4. Not anytime soon, there are just too many great fighters out there. Manny Pacquiao, Kelly Pavlik, David Haye. These fighters are making history. Cotto is, however, the number one welterweight as of Floyd Mayweather's retirement. If he manages to unify the titles, he may be get a shot at number one, but he has some stiff competition in Margaito, Williams, Berto, and even Clottey. The highest he will be ranked is #3 or 4 for the time being, if he manages to stay unbeaten in a couple of years, he'll get that number one spot with no doubts.

  5. Not in Britain or the Philippines, but the rest of the world would give him the nod if he unified the welterweight titles.

  6. If he keep beating top guy's, I believe he will be #1. Cotto has two top guy's on his resume. Judah and Mosley. I didn't put Quintana up there because he only has one top guy on his resume, Paul Williams. Hate to say it, Quintana is overated and on his way to being a stepping stone. Once Cotto start clearing the division against top guy's, than he will be up there. I think Margo is a start.

  7. Right now if he keeps fighting at this pace, taking fights with the top challengers i think he would come up to tht spot soon.  I think pacqiaou if he fights hatton, hattons brawling style would beat him.  Calzaghe will retire and will get a handful of problems with Jones.  Those are the only 2 i have in front of him.  Calzaghe will retire and Pacqiaou might move up one class too many and fight 1 to many punchers and i think would lose to hatton.  I see cotto being #1 if he could take care of margarito.  To be honest i dont see him beating margarito on july 26th.  If he could get passes margarito i think he wont be beat anytime soon including agasint oscar de la hoya.
