  1. I was ready to bet the rent on Curlin in the Haskell.

    I'm glad I did not.

  2. I hope so, but as long as Hard Spun doesn't win, I'm a happy gal. I despise HS's owner. jerk.

  3. I think Curlin will romp over this field !!

  4. For those who don't know who's entered:

    The field, in post position order with (sire), jockey, weight and trainer:

    1. Any Given Saturday (Distorted Humor), Garrett Gomez, 118, Todd Pletcher;

    2. Cable Boy (Jump Start), Jose Velez Jr., 118, Patrick McBurney;

    3. Stormello,  (Stormy Atlantic), Eddie Castro, 118, Bill Currin;

    4. Imawildandcrazyguy (Wild Event), Manoel Cruz, 118, Bill Kaplan;

    5. Reata’s Shadow (Include), Joe Bravo, 118, Joe Orseno

    6. Curlin (Smart Strike), Robby Albarado, 122, Steve Asmussen

    7. Hard Spun (Danzig), Mario Pino, 118, Larry Jones, and;

    8.  Xchanger (Exchange Rate), Edgar Prado, 118, Mark Shuman.

    It shapes up to be an exciting race.  I don't know what the weather forecast is-- that's always a factor, rain can totally change the complexion of a race.

    Curlin has been working well, but it's been a while since he's raced and he may not be completely "tight."  I like Hard Spun, who is, I think, a better horse than his Triple Crown races show.  Stormello is solid too.  For a long shot I think I'd take a flyer on Xchanger.

    I don't know-- I think this one may be too close to call.  If I were at the track, I'd probably box Curlin, Stormello and Hard Spun for the exacta, but not more than a $2 box.  Too close to call.

  5. What a bummer...Curlin came in third in the Haskell. His trainer said it was the "worst race of his life."

  6. Probably, but he offers no value at the 3/5 he will go off at.

    He is likely to be taken way off the early pace, and though there is plenty of early speed in the race, Albarado does not know the track well and he may leave Curlin with too much to do late.

    I'm going with the blazingly fast Cable Boy, with the local jockey/trainer combination of Velez/McBurney, to wire this field on the front end. Often, riders of supposed "classier" horses in a race such as this will let a horse like Cable Boy go, figuring that he will come back  to the field eventually.

    If CB is let out to a decent lead and can get a breather in one of the quarters, he will be tough to run down. He set a track record recently at a mile and 70 yards. Plus he should be 11-1 or so.

    I'll use him to win and box with Curlin and Hard Spun.

  7. it's sunday. i love curlin but it would be nice to see cable boy win. if there was like a match race between those two coming down the strech well that would be amazing.

  8. no...but he has a good chance on Sunday

  9. Probably.  He's an awesome horse.  And according to this article he is looking great. He did a half mile in less than 50 seconds.....amazing.....

    And he is one of the favorites (except I don't like his post position: 6 out of 8)
