Will Dementieva finally get her first Slam?

Question

Though I am pulling for Serena, as I always do, I cant help but notice, and think, that Elena Dementieva is sitting pretty, and on her way to getting her first Major. Her section of the draw, sure looks favorable to get to at least the semis, and I think she can beat Jankovic easily. Forget her serving issues, her ground game is one of the strongest out there, and despite her inconsistent , sometimes weak serve, she has been one of the more consistent players year in year out. With momentum on her side as well, winning The Gold in China, I think her chances are excellent. Do you think she can/can not get her first Major, and why/why not?

i am liking dementevas game these days..... she reached the quaterfinals of fhe FRENCH, and the semifinals OF Wimbledon..

her game has improved, even her serve has gotten a notch stronger, and she is coming off a big win from the olympics... she did have a little bit of a choke agains't safina in the quaterfinal of the french.. but i think she did learn from that..

i certainly hope she can pull this off, with alot of determination and great ground strokes she can oust a willam sister and win her first slam..

Elena's serve has gotten a little better, but you cannot dismiss her bad serving because she always has to work hard to score. She can't win easy points on her serve. But seeing that she won the Gold Medal in Beijing I think she has alot of confidence and I agree that her groundstrokes are powerful and she can hit with anyone, and her movement is really good. Her serve has looked better. I think I saw her serving like 109 yesterday. So if she can serve well I know she can break her opponent's serve no problem and give herself a good chance to win the U.S. Open title.

Hope so, she is a good player however even though her serve has improved i still think its a big part of her game which lets her down.

Dementieva is an amazing player. She just won the gold medal in Beijing and is full of confidence. I think she has a great chance of making it to the finals. If Serena or Venus faces her in the finals, I think it will be a close match. Maybe this is her chance for a slam. We will have to wait and see.

Sure she can. Her confidence must be really high after winning gold in Beijing and beating Safina who is the hottest player right now.

In a  Grand Slam pressure situation  her serve will go the way of Mississippi. Way South !!!!!!  Safina or S, Williams will ultimately win this one.

Well she is in really good form, and with the state of women's tennis as it is right now she has every chance. I personally would love to see her win her first Grand Slam at 26, She has been a top player for the best part of a decade and she deserves recoignition and every success for all she has achieved. Demenitieva is one of the players whom I can see dominating tennis during this faze of mediocrity. I'd love to see her and fellow Russians Safina and Kuznetsova aswell as Hantuchova to step it up and get women's tennis back on track.

Definitely a great player however her serve lets her down and when up against big serving players like serena and venus elena's strong groundstrokes aren't tough enough.

However elena has once said that her serve is her weapon because other players may think it's a drop shot!
