from POLITICO (Mike Allen's report/update):

'Vice President Cheney will travel abroad beginning September 2, 2008. President Bush has asked the Vice President to travel to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Italy for discussions with these key partners on issues of mutual interest. The Vice President will meet with President Aliyev of Azerbaijan, President Saakashvili of Georgia.'

These visits on behalf of the Bush-Cheney administration follow his speech before the Republican Political Party Convention (Minneapolis-St. Paul) on Sept. 1 or 2. . .

  1. Precede Haliburton's further expansion more likely.

  2. Only if Cheney goes Quail hunting. A military action often follows a shooting.  I can see your point the republicans are always looking for  way to keep the military working. It would be a disaster to get in the fight and leave the war for Obama to fight.

  3. Did anyone ever think this was to show both sides how important an issue this is to the USA? The Presidents job according to the Constitution is Foreign Policy (not Congress) - dealing with leaders of other countries.  Everyone knows he (Cheney) has more experience in foreign policy than Bush - so he is going to show support for Georgia and to hopefully help break some of the tensions in that area.

While I'm not a big W fan it's not always about starting a conflict - sometimes our leaders go to these areas to try to calm the waters....

  4. Will Darth Cheney be bringing his stormtroopers?

  5. NO.  If all political visits of foreign leaders preceded military action, we would be beyond World War 12,000 by now.

Just because the United States Vice President is visiting other countries, countries in potential harms way of Russia, why should you automatically think the US is going to attack someone?

It took weeks of open congressional studies and committee sessions to authorize military force in Iraq. Congress couldn't keep a secret if its life depended on it.. so NO there is no military action planned to coincide with Mr Cheney's visit.

  6. No - just their defense build-up.

BTW - a trip by Obama there would precede military action - ie he'd give their freedom over to Russia in a hearbeat!

    Peace
