Will Dinara Safina win the French Open?

Safina "the giant killer" I think will end up in the final playing against a serb, probably Ivanovic, how far fetched is that?

I think she was perhaps a little lucky today, not to downplay her coming back from match point down, but if she can keep it up, who knows?  She's been in great form on clay this year, and if she can beat the likes of Henin, Serena, and Maria in tight 3 set matches, then I think she's finally mentally ready to take the next step and really challenge for a slam title.  She's always had the tennis skills, just not the mental fortitude, until now.  I still think Jankovic (my pick) and Ivanovic are the favorites though, but we'll see.

Now today she was a bit lucky, but she played amazingly. I think the winner of the French Open will be...........I don't know, but I was shocked that Maria lost. Maybe the winner will be Svetlana Kuznetsova. That's my prediction. The door is open to all women to win their first grandslam. Actually Kuznetsova did win a grandslam before. I think maybe this will be her year.

Base on recent form - yes.  But can she maintain this level of play in the upcoming 3 matches?  If yes, high possibility.  But let's not forget Kuznetsova and Dementieva is on her side of draws.  She should be careful cause those two are really unpredictable.

Congrats Dinara!! I am a hugeeee fan of Marat's because of his strong baseline game...and the backhand is like my absolute fav shot eva...lol so I am so totally biased and love the Safin family! More power to Dinara, she got through Maria...who STRUGGLED in the opening rounds..ha!

I haven't seen too many of the other women play...I guess due to coverage of Maria's games (I havent even seen Ivancovic's matches on!!! and she was in the final last year! ha!!!) but once she keeps her mental and focuses she got it in da bag!!! SAFINA!!!!

While of course she does have a shot at winning the French Open, I doubt Dinara will. I don't think at this point in time she has the mental strenght to come through the entire tournament not to mention she might suffer a big emotional let down after this big win over Sharapova.

My money is on Ana Ivanovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova to win it all.

dinara deserves to win because she has already ousted the no 1 and she'll also be up against elena, another in-fom player. if ana and dinara were to meet in the final, ana's likely to win as she's had many easy matches, and in the  long drawn french open this also matters. so my heart's on either dinara or svetlana but i feel it's gonna be ana.

who knows? it's still so up in the air at this point. if she's able to maintain this level and isn't overly fatigued(thankfully,she'll have a day off tomorrow to recover)indeed,its not unforeseeable. and she plays dementieva next who she beat in berlin. and there too,she played three straight three-setters as well.

however,my heart still lies with kuzi and jelena in the final. but we'll see.

She is definitely one of the  remaining front runners, despite beating Sharapova. Coming into The French she has been on fire and loves the clay, and found her game once again. She has a down year last season and slipped, but has shown why she was considered to be one of the top Russians. She as well as Zvonereva, and Dementieva have each brought back their great play this season. I could see either Dinara or Elena coming out of their half and reaching the final, with no question. Can she beat Ivanovic and Jankovic, sure, espercially Jankovic. Ivanovic I see reaching final in her half and will make a great 3 set Final, with one of them capturing their First Slam.

i hope so.  first i hope either safina or dimentieva will win the french. don't get me wrong  because i like kutnezsova too, but kutnezsova always choke when she is in the final.  i just think this russian section is so tough to go through so i just do not think that avanovic should win the title since she did not really have to face the tough opponents like sarena  and all.  so i feel that safina or dimentieva deserves it more than ivanovic.  as i recalled, dimentieva and safina will be a tougher opponent for ivanovic than kutnezsova.  i am so confident that ivanovic would take out jankovic because jankovic always lost against ivanovic.  anyway, congrats to safina.  well done .

I think it's a little more than "good luck" to defeat two World No. 1 players in a month, who knows if she'll keep it up but she is very impressive and I think no matter what happens she will be very good in the years to come. It would be interesting and fun to see her win RG, the player without the hype/fame winning would be awesome.
