  1. it's sort of a wash:

Pros - DUNN - having a Ryan Howard season (big power numbers, low avg)

RAMIREZ - gets the big hits, with comparable power numbers

Cons - DUNN - Chase Field is way more difficult to hit HRs in than Great American Ballpark, even more K's for a team that strikes out A LOT

RAMIREZ - he is unforgivably slow, can definitely bring unwanted drama into the clubhouse.

I give the edge to the Dbacks. Definitely strong pitching as you said, but I think you may not be giving enough credit to their hitting. Mark Reynolds and Dunn bring huge power numbers - 56 HRs and 153 RBIs between them. Also, Conor Jackson's .311 AVG and 60 RBIs with Stephen Drew's .349 AVG in his last 10 games give a strong chance for the Dbacks to take the division.

  2. Dunn gives the D-Backs power hitting, which they needed desperately.  Dunn has a very high OBP, but he has a low average(.233) and he strikes out a ton.  I predicted the Dodgers to win the NL West at the beginning of the season.  It is still close, so anything can happen.

  3. Dunn isn't even hitting his weight.  So what that he has hit 32 home runs,he doesn't get on base enough to really matter.  Manny will help the Dodgers a great deal more over the long run.

The Dodger WILL win the division.

  4. Manny will back it up because He gets better everyday.

Watch The Dodgers will win the Division thanks to Manny.

  5. Dunn isn't going to help the D-Backs that much, they need defense not offense (last year they had a negative RS/RA +/-). The Dodgers are only one game out of first place and will easily take it.

  6. Although the Manny deal has been a huge surge to LA, Arizona just has the more consistent squad. I'm not saying that they are consistent in comparison to many others, I'm just saying against LA. Dunn was a perfect deal for them in my opinion. They added a huge threat to a recently weak lineup. The injuries to Hudson, Upton, and Byrnes have really damages their wins, but they can fight through it. Their young guys just have to step up, and I think they did the perfect thing to get the team pumped up by adding Dunn. Also, when you can throw out Webb, Haren, and Randy Johnson every 5 games, you should be competitive every time. With young hitters like Young, Jackson, Drew, Tracy, and Reynolds, it might be tough to come through in the clutch, but I think they have the ability to get it done.

  7. Manny is hitting .484 or so since coming over. Big shoes for Dunn to try and match.

  8. Dunn gets on base a ton, his OBP is right up there with alot of the leaders.

As long as Dunn isn't asked to play RF to often he'll help the Diamond Backs alot.

I could see Dunn helping them get to the World Series even.

  9. The Dodgers should prevail, they've added about 40 points to their team BA since Manny arrived and they do have pitching (currently 2nd best staff ERA in the majors)

But they have to get over the recent bullpen issues. They should be ahead of Arizona already except that they blew two 9th inning leads in a row to a terrible Giants team this weekend. That can't happen anymore..

  10. If the Dodgers can continue playing like they did last night, Manny will prevail. They have a proven veteran player returning tonight in Nomar Garciaparra.

  11. Dunn and the pesky Diamondbacks will prevail in the NL West. Last year without Dunn or their ace pitcher Dan Harren the D Backs slipped into the playoffs when no one even gave them a chance. I saw the Diamondbacks making the playoffs without Dunn and now that they have him its plus. The Dodgers although getting a great player it was just too little too late. The Diamondbacks without Dunn still held first place and have held it for all of four days this year. Look for other Diamondbacks to benefit from hitting around the power slugging Dunn and win the NL West.

  12. The D-backs pitching will propel them over the Dodgers.

  13. I'm thinking D-Backs. They're a better team and the Dodgers need more than Manny to get to first.
