Will English and Spanish eventually become the only two remaining world languages?

it appears that as the world becomes smaller and smaller, languages disappear every day... will English and Spanish eventually survive to be the only two remaining active languages on earth?

[obviously, other languages will always be preserved even if they're not actively practiced, like Latin is today]

  1. nooo. lol chinese will remain also

and i think tagalog, too :)

  2. No I don't think that will happen. There are a lot that have nothing to do with either English or Spanish, and their cultures including language are very hearty.

    German

    All the Scandanavian languages

    All the Slavic languages

    All the Middle Eastern languages

    All the Asian language

All the tribal languages of Africans and other indiginous people, Native Americans.

And then there is Hebrew...widely spoken not as a first language (except in Israel) but where there are Jewish people, there are Jewish children in Hebrew school.

  3. There is no way that languages such as Mandarin Chinese are going to disappear any time soon. It's possible that English might become closer to being the most spoken language (At the moment it's Mandarin), but I think that's about as close as it's gonna get.

  4. I highly doubt that considering more and more people are starting to learn languages like Chinese, Arabic, Russian, etc. In fact, neither Spanish nor English are the most spoken language in the world according to many credited sources. Both will be key languages to know in the future, however will not be the only two! haha.

  5. Languages disappear every day??

    What's your source?

  6. it does look like more and more people can speak spanish and english today but i really hope that all the other languages don't disappear each language is very beautiful

  7. No, Chinese, Indian and Russia langauage will be widely used in 50 years time.

  8. Yes, languages disappear, but these are languages that only have a few speakers left.  A lot of languages have millions of speakers -- what makes you think that they will disappear so soon and that English and Spanish will still exist then? What makes you think that these disappearing languages will be replaced by English or Spanish? 400 years ago, America didn't exist. 400 years from now, China might be the new superpower and English might become extinct. These things you just can't know. But there will always be large numbers of languages, simply because of the sheer number of humans there are -- and that number isn't going down of yet.

  9. no as much as i hate it but people are practically being forced to learn english in other countries

  10. I really doubt it, I think it will come to about 15 to 20 world languages.

It is sad that languages are dying out.

Latin really isn't dead, it just evolved into Italian, French, Spanish etc.
