Federer has certainly put forward a strong case for it. Completing a career Grand Slam with the French Open title, winning his 16th major title to break Pete Sampras’ record, and regaining the No. 1 spot. That’s a performance that on the face of it will be tough to beat – and most other nominees haven’t completed quite such record breaking feats.
