Will Floyd retire unbeaten or Cotto can take care of business? – Boxing Special
Hardly any fighter of such a stature has retired with an unbeaten streak, but it looks like Floyd will. He has retained his undefeated streak to date and he is talking of retirement. He is currently scheduled to face Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand
in Las Vegas. Cotto will be defending his WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Champion title against Mayweather.
Considering Mayweather’s unbeaten performance and his five-division world champion status, it will not take a genius to guess Mayweather will defeat Cotto. Besides, his WBC welterweight championship is not on the line, so he will not be as pressurised by
the thought of losing as Miguel Cotto will be.
In other words, all odds are in Mayweather’s favour and it seems like this is one of the biggest mistakes of Cotto’s career after Margarito. However, what is more important here is whether Mayweather will remain undefeated or not.
If he defeats Cotto, he will probably be facing Manny Pacquiao in November. Although the bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather is not confirmed yet, there are high chances of it happening since both the fighters are on the verge of retirement and they want
to give their fans the much-awaited fight before leaving the sport.
Of course, Miguel Cotto is hardly a threat to Mayweather’s undefeated streak, but Manny is. Even though Mayweather is confident that he can beat Pacquiao, there are still chances of him getting the most brutal beating of his life at the hands of the Filipino
WBO welterweight champion.
The only fortunate aspect for Mayweather is that Manny Pacquiao has taken a complete u-turn in life. The fighter, who once was a storm to handle for his opponents, now seems to be relaxed. His religious embracement these days have brought his soul to nirvana,
at least that is how he is putting it.
In fact, he has gone to the extent of saying he will retire because God does not want him to hurt people. In his recent interview, Pacquiao said that God has directed him to quit boxing as he has achieved enough and there is nothing more to be achieved.
If that is how Pacquiao will be stepping in the ring against Mayweather then definitely the latter will dominate.
Mayweather and Pacquiao are both known for their speed and resilience. However, if Pacquiao becomes the relaxed one, he will definitely become the victim of Mayweather’s fury. The only advantage Pacquiao has over Mayweather is strong left arm through which
he takes his opponents down by surprise. If Manny can stay the way he has stayed throughout his career, then defeating Mayweather will not be a difficult task for him. However, even the slightest distraction for Pacquiao can put him in trouble.
For now, it is not sure if both these top-notch fighters will clash or not. Mayweather has to face Cotto to defend his streak. Cotto is not a fighter of Mayweather’s calibre and there is hardly a chance of beating Mayweather. Cotto’s well-wishers are advising
him to prepare well for the bout since they know he cannot beat Mayweather with his current strategy. Mayweather can last for 12 rounds whereas Cotto usually struggles to breathe by the eighth round. If that is how he is planning to step in the ring against
Mayweather then probably he has no chance to beat him, and Mayweather will reign.
