Will Frankel and Black Caviar, the undefeated champions compete in the highly anticipated Qipco Sussex Stakes?
Sheikh Fahad, the sponsor of the Qipco Sussex Stakes, has offered £1 million for the connections of two undefeated runners, Frankel and Black Caviar, so that they can compete against each other in the Sussex Stakes.
These are two of the highly-rated runners with impeccable racing records.
Frankel, son of Galileo, out of mare, is trained by Sir Henry Cecil for K. Abdulla, has a terrific record and bagged the Qipco Sussex Stakes (British Champions' Series) at Goodwood on 27th July, 2011.
He was mounted by Tom Queally and under his guidance, he ran an incredible race, where he finished 5 lengths ahead of Canford Cliffs.
Cecil believes that the two runners are mostly likely to meet at Sussex, he stated to the press that “The Sussex Stakes is arguably the only realistic chance of the two horses meeting, and we are delighted to make the gesture of increasing the prize
fund to £1m as an incentive to the connections of both horses to run at Goodwood."
Black Caviar, the six-year-old mare from Australia, and she is trained by Peter G.Moody for owners, G.J. Wilkie and Mrs K.J. Wilkie et al, has proved her outstanding talent on many different occasions.
Moody told the press that he is open to enter his mare in different events after she participates in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He stated that "I'm not sure if [meeting Frankel] will come off, but I'm quite bullish about it," he further emphasized on his point by saying "I'm sure there will be plenty of overtures once we get to England and we'll look at them then."
If the two runners line-up to compete at Goodwood on 1st August, 2012, Sheikh Fahad has promised to add an extra £700,000 to the purse.
The already high-profile race is gathering more attention from the media, waiting for the verdict from the connections if the two runners will meet in this event.
If Black Caviar and Frankel compete in this race, it will be one of the most exciting events of the year. Black Caviar may be at a slight disadvantage because of his unfamiliarity with the track, but it will be a showdown of epic proportions nonetheless.
