Will GPS work in Mexico?

I want to get a gps portable Tom Tom or Garmin will it work into mexico or will I have to alter it with something extra?

Why wouldn't it?  GPS is global positioning system and uses satellite in space, not your local cell phone tower.

GPS will work all over the globe but you will most likely need maps for Mexico too.

No problem. Every GPS uses the same sattelites that are orbitting everywhere. It should work fine.

I know for sure, tomtom does not have maps of Mexico.  I checked the Garmin website and as far as I can tell they don't either.

Make sure the unit that you are looking to buy has the maps already loaded and ready to use.

Some units may not have the maps.

Some might, but they may be locked and you will have to pay to unlock the maps (be careful, it may be expensive).

Some units you can buy the maps and load them into the unit.

I have a Magellan U.S.A. unit that I bought because it also had maps of Europe, but they were locked. I needed the Europe maps for a trip and I bought this unit thinking I probably wouldn't cost a lot for an unlock code. WRONG!!! It cost me $250 just for the code!!

To make matters worse, the Magellan unit keeps breaking, and they have a horrible customer service.

I think you can program it for other countries. You can do this or contact them! Have fun.

It will give you your latitude and longitude.  But to see where you are, you might need to install the appropriate maps.

it should definately work because it is guided by satelite so it should work anywhere
