Question:

Will Ghost Shrimp eat Cherry Shrimp?

I recently bought 10 Cherry Shrimp to go in my partner's aquarium (they're currently in a new tank that is acting as a quarantine, along with 12 Corys which they get along with fine, and will eventually hold a Betta also.)

In a seperate (but less suitable) tank I also have 6 Ghost Shrimp.

I'm eager to move the Ghost Shrimp into the quarantine tank as it is superior in several ways (Better filtration, size, and look goodiness) but I'm worried that the Ghost Shrimp will just gobble up all the Cherry Shrimp. One of my initial 7 Ghost Shrimp has already been eaten by the others, but this was because he died (they didn't really bother him until he'd stopped moving which is why I think the Cherries might be alright).

If they're going to end up eating each other I can potentially house them in separate tanks both with good conditions in (another tank with a Betta) but my partner is reluctant to let me put the currently quarantined Ghosts into any non-quarantine tank.

Any suggestions?

Oh and please, nobody say try it and see...I'm capable of figuring that one out on my own, and it's what'll be happening if I don't get replies, but I'd rather my Ghost Shrimp which ended up being free, didn't eat my Cherry Shrimp which cost £10.

  1. The Ghost Shrimp are scavengers, picking food off the bottom of the aquarium (and helping clean up so you don't have to). They should be okay with the Cherry Shrimp because they are not predators and don't go after anything living. I never quarantine any of my fish, unless they're sick (flame away), so I think anything you want to do with the Shrimps is ok, because they are really hardy, and peaceful too.
