Will Goldikova bow out with a historical fourth win in a row in the Mile? Most probably yes!
The Breeders’ Cup veteran is coming back to claim her prize for the fourth straight year, as Goldikova sets out to go where no thoroughbred has gone before. The 6-year-old marvelous mare has won the Breeders’ Cup Mile three times in a row.
It was in 2008 when Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, the Swiss-born brothers who bred and own Goldikova after watching their filly rip apart her competition in the Breeders’ Cup Mile announced that they would delay Goldikova’s retirement.
And what a decision it turned out to be, three years later she is one of the greatest mare’s to grace the sport with her unlimited talent and will, and hunger to go out there and win, to shoot the runner down and take the leaders’ place and then humbly walk
to the winning circle with her head held high, posing for those photographers.
Her last win in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Mile was an emotionally charged one and a victory which defied all odds of racing, going out there sizing up her opponents at her favoured distance of a mile. What else could it been all about, it was about winning
it despite the fact nobody had done it before.
There has to be this one individual to go out there and do the impossible, she entered as the favourite and she didn’t make those bettors look outrageously daft, and this time around there is a little more faith even when she is being backed to win it for
the 4th time running.
As expected, Goldikova is sent off as the 7 to 5 morning line favourite in a race which will be the last of her illustrious career, 27th to be exact and a win here would be even more emotionally charged than the one last year.
Goldikova will be up against 12 other foes who will try their best to make that precious mile, but the probability always favours repetition and the fact that she has done it three times before same place same venue, the other overseas contenders and the
American runners will have their work cut out for sure.
