Will Greg Maddux retire after this season?

He has said that he wants to play some more, it is still fun for him so I think he will pitch if someone will have him!

Yes because he was going to retire this year but he decided not to so i'm think 2009 is his retirement year.

Had the Padres been able to provide him with some run support he would have been having a very good season.

In 8 games this year he's given up 2 or less run and did not get wins.

He's using his wits to get batters out and paces himself well in games this year. He's been fairly decent in 5 to 6 innings. I think he can go at least another year if he is up for it.

I think it's likely, but he may be tempted back by a contender. He may want one last chance to go out on top. Playing this year in SD has to have been hard on him.

It depends, I think he just wants to beat Roger Clemens for All-Time wins, just so he can say that he was without doubt the best pitcher of his generation, bu then again I am not a mind reader. He could be trying to get past Pud Galvin and Warren Spahn who are in the 360's, and then Pete Alexander and Christy Mathewson who are in the 370's, he may keep going, who knows. To answer your question, no I think he will keep going

Believe it or not,,Maddux continues to play at his age because he simply loves the game.  He has never been about the stats or awards despite what people always say or think.  The problem is that he may need to take a huge paycut at this point in his career to continue. He is no longer worth the money that he has been getting paid for years now.  He still can be a team 4th or 5th starter and give you a solid 175-200 innings a year.  SO this is a tough call.  It's amazing how some of these older pitchers can still be good in their early to mid 40's like Maddux, Moyer, R. Johnson, Glavine etc.
