Will HRH Prince Charles ever become king?

I personally doubt it. All that business with Camilla, his lack of popularity, the fact that he is not a freemason (He is the first male in line to the throne to not be a mason in over 300 years) and the fact he plans on having a "multi faith" coranation are all good reasons why he wont.

What do you think?

  1. if he doesn't die before his mother or abdicate, then yes, he will.

  2. Yes, when the Queen, his Mom, dies.  And if an anvil falls on her head as she's watching Wimbledon, I had nothing to do with it.

  3. Yes - when the queen dies.  It's constitutional, popularity has little to do with it.

It might help him decide whether or not to abdicate in favor of his son.

  4. Unless Prince Charles abdicates or passes away, he will be the next heir in line to the British throne. The line of succession to the British Throne is an ordered list of the people in line to succeed to the throne of the United Kingdom. The succession is regulated by the Act of Settlement 1701, which limits it to the heirs of the Electress Sophia of Hanover, as determined by male-preference primogeniture, religion, and legitimate birth. Therefore, no one including the Queen can forbid anyone from inheriting the crown after her.

Note: Prince Charles' personal conduct cannot be used as a "legitimate" reason to skip him and place Prince William on the throne. The only thing that can make him forfeit his place in line is if he becomes a Catholic. However, if members of the British Parliament feels that he is "unfit" to take this role as King or stepping over the threshold of power of authority, they might "force" him to abdicate. Kinda of like what they did with King Edward VIII over his controversial marriage to Wallis Simpson. Although he voluntarily relinquished the throne, he was still literally forced to do so. And yes, the British Parliament do have the power to overthrow the entire British monarchy, if they wanted to, Gordon Brown is actually taking minimal steps in "introducing" new reforms for the British family as we speak!.

  5. I absolutely think he'll become king.  The monarchy isn't a popularity contest.  He's the eldest son of the curent monarch, and he's not a Catholic.

Camilla is a non-issue.  She'a already agreed to not be crowned queen.  She'll remain Duchess of Cornwall.  Which is a d**n shame.  Again, it's not a stinking popularity contest.

  6. You mean the man who would be queen? Sure, when his mom dies, it is all his.  Many of England's royalty have done far worse than whatever Charles plans to do.

  7. The monarchy in England has always determined the soverign through direct lineage. Thus, Charles, however unpopular, will be King Charles III one day.

  8. Well if Queen Elizabeth lives as long as the Queen Mum she may well outlive her son. Otherwise Charles will become King.  It is not related to popularity, and Charles will have waited a long time and probably  there are things he would like to do as King. I doubt he will abdicate, he probably grew up having it drummed into him how shameful abdication was because of "Uncle David" aka Edward VIII.

Just think of what other kings have done, Henry VIII changed the whole religion of the country just so he could dump his wife and marry another.  Not to mention killing off the new one and then some more wives , not to mention killing off all the Yorks that Henry VII had not already got rid of.

I reckon if Parliament were going to try to take Charles out of succession for marrying  Camilla they'd have done it at the time.  To disqualify a king for carrying on extramarital affairs would have disqualified probably most of the kings in history.

I don't think being a freemason is a requirement. (and is William one ???)

  9. Charles will become King when his mother dies;the position has nothing to do with mere popularity as it's a constitutional monarchy with specific rules for succession.Times are changing and Charles is aware that he will have to make some decisions, like having a multi-faith coronation and becoming "Defender of the Faiths" instead of the more discriminatory and outdated defender of the faith.

Charles' reign was always expected to be a short reign;he has always been expected to pave the way for his heir, and do some modernization of the monarchical system.

  10. I really don't know. But if everything is left up to me,I would like to be queen. What's a mason? Is that something bad.I heard that my great-grandpa was one..Email me what that means..

  11. In addition on what  Ariana deR says: "he probably grew up having it drummed into him how shameful abdication was because of "Uncle David" aka Edward VIII" I have to add that if it wasn't for "Uncle David" abdicating, Elizabeth would NEVER have been Queen to begin with!

Plus the fact that Prince Charles is in the same situation as Edward VIII: he also married a divorced woman and with the old-fashioned traditions the English Royal House still has, it wouldn't surprise me if he would pass the crown on to his son, Prince William.

Also, but that is my personal opinion, if indeed Elizabeth II will be as old as her mother (or even Queen Victoria), then Prince Charles will be too old to reign anyway, eventhough it is merely 'holding the title' instead of actually ruling the country.

Why don't they do as say the Dutch Royal House and abdicate when they're in their seventies? I think that's only fair because one can't keep up with modern times that great anymore when of a certain age and at least they (Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Juliana) understood that.
