  1. They must play at least one game in the finals.....or qualify by playing enough games in regular season..others can petition the club to get their name on the cup.

    Chelios, Chris

    Cleary, Daniel

    Datsyuk, Pavel

    Downey, Aaron

    Drake, Dallas

    Draper, Kris

    Filppula, Valtteri

    Franzen, Johan

Some things for people to understand

    1) If you play 41 regular season games (or as a goaltender you are dressed for 41 regular season games) and you finished the regular season with the franchise.  Your name is automatically put on the Stanley Cup by the league

    2)  If you play at least 1 game in the Stanley Cup final (or as a goaltender you are dressed for at least 1 game in the Stanley Cup final).  Your name is automatically put on the Stanley Cup by the League.

If you do not meet #1 or #2 above, your team can vote you a playoff share and petition the league to have your name put on the cup.  It's totally up to the team at this point (the Hartman rule as the Rangers were the first to do this in support of Mike Hartman who was injured for most of the 1993-94 season) to determine who they want on the cup.  For all you Bettman haters, this is one of the good things he's done.

Detroit has granted Mark Hartigan and Derek Meech full playoff shares.

    - They have petitioned to have Hartigan on the Cup as a 'vital component' to the team during their Stanley Cup run.

    - They have petitioned to have Meech on the Cup as 'injury consideration' prevented him from meeting the requirements.

Mark Hartigan went through this last year.  He failed to play in enough regular season games in Anaheim.  He did not play in the Stanley Cup final (just an early first round game against the Wild) but the Ducks voted him a playoff share and successfully petitioned the NHL to have his name on the Cup.  He played a lot more this year, so his name should be there.

  3. Mark Hartigan did not meet the 40-game regular season criteria for the cup - BUT he did play in four playoff games, so his name will go on the cup.

Derek Meech fell short of the 40 games by 8 (he played 32), and he did not play in any playoff games for Detroit, so his name will not be on the cup.

    Added -

Others who will be on the cup (other than the regular starters):

Aaron Downey did not play any playoff games, but he did play more than 40 games (he played 56) so he will be on the cup.

Darren Helm (played 7 regular season and 18 postseason games)

Tomas Kopecky (played 77 games before his ACL tear in April)

Darren McCarty (only played 3 regular season games, but played in 17 playoffs games)

    Others who won’t:

Justin Abdelkader (fresh out of his junior year at Michigan State University played 2 regular season games and signed with the Wings for 3 years.)

Matt Ellis (played 35 games with the Wings and is now with the Kings)

    Jonathan Ericsson (played 8 games)

Jimmy Howard (farm team call-up played 4 games this season)

Kyle Quincy (farm team call-up played 6 games for Detroit.  Incidentally, he would have been on the cup last year had Detroit won as he played in 13 playoff games last year.)

Mattias Ritola (played 2 games totally 11.5 minutes for the Wings this year)

Garrett Stafford (only played 2 games for the Wings for a total of 13.5 minutes of ice time)

  4. ???

  5. Meech?

No, unfortunately they wont be on the cup. A player must play in at least 40 regular season games to have their name on the cup.

  6. I did not know that a player has to play more than 40 games to be on the cup? you sure about that? I thought who is on the team period.

  7. A team MAY submit a list of up to 42 names. The league makes a decision from there.

The rest of the criteria is spelled out well above^^^^

  8. no there names won't be on it because he did not play one game in the stanley cup finals and he did not play 69 games in the regular season
