Hi i have a new house and would love to grow some ivy up the wall at the front, only problem the perimeter of the house is surrounded by concrete path. Would Ivy thrive from a large pot beside the house or does it need to be connected to "real Soil" ie have the ivy trailing to the house over path to to the wall. Im wondering as the ivy grows maybe the pot wont be enough for the ivy to live off and just as its gettin up near top of house it will start to die off by the flower pot not being enough to support it?!

any advice?

  1. I would get a cute basin....they don't have a very large root system so it would probably work to get a semi-long shallow pan...they roots tend to spread more across just below the surface of the soil.and once it starts growing, if you have vines that grow down i would put another pan or soil so it can root...it would thrive better throughout the entire plant and be greener and grow farther :)
