Will I be OK in time?

I twisted my ankle a couple of weeks ago. I went to the podiatrist and he advised me to do RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevate) which I did for 2 weeks. But my daughter and I had planned an overnight trip to New York. I felt OK that morning but I limped all that night and the next day. Went back to the podiatrist and he ordered an MRI. Results: torn ligament. I am now in a walking cast up to my knee. My problem: my husband and I are supposed to leave for Paris in 5 weeks. There has been no swelling or bruising. I can walk on the ankle with some degree of pain. The podiatrist thinks if I keep the cast on and stay off my feet as much as I can that I might be OK. I have to see her in 4 weeks and she most likely will put me in an ankle strap if she feels the ankle has improved. I don't want to cancel Paris. It is a gift for my 50th birthday and it will cost us $540 to cancel. Airfare was purchased through air line points. Has anyone had this happened to them? Do you think I will be OK for Paris? Paris will be a lot of walking.

  1. I think the only thing you can do is follow your Dr. advice. If it were me, I would walk only a little, then sit with your leg elevated.

When you see the Dr. again maybe you might ask if possible would a cane help when you do a lot of walking.  The other thing I would do is rent a wheel chair and use it all the time if needed, or part time to give your ankle a rest. I've been to Paris, and I would not miss this trip for anything. Where there is a will, usually there is a way. Stay positive.
