Okay, basically I've considered going to graduate school to serve as a consul somewhere, but my dad keeps telling me to go into buisiness and that because of the fact I'm straight out of graduate school, I'll end up a low-ranking government beaurocrat who is the Junior Assistant Chief of Visas for the Consulate to Ghana, is this general idea true?

  1. Folks gotta start somewhere. Most junior officers start off on a visa line somewhere, usually on the first tour, sometimes the second. In general, you do more and have larger responsibilities at smaller embassies. You could do worse than Ghana. I would imagine that your starting salary in business would be higher, maybe a lot higher. So, it really depends on what's important to you. What motivates you as a career.

  2. yes, but just like in McDonald's you'll work your way up to the  Chief of Visas for the consulate in Ghana.
