Okay, basically I've considered going to graduate school to serve as a consul somewhere, but my dad keeps telling me to go into buisiness and that because of the fact I'm straight out of graduate school, I'll end up a low-ranking government beaurocrat who is the Junior Assistant Chief of Visas for the Consulate to Ghana, is this general idea true?

  1. What's wrong with being the Assistant Chief of Visas for the Consulate of Ghana?

No matter what your career path, you are going to have to "pay your dues".  Even graduating from a top business program, you will find yourself in a Leadership Development Rotational Program for a couple years instead of being given the keys to the CEO's office.  Have you seen year-old accountants between February 1 and April 15?  The answer is no.  They live in their offices, paying their dues.

However, think of future cocktail parties.  The opening line of "This one time, when I was in Ghana" is going to be more interesting that "When I was working 80+ hour work weeks".

  2. No,ofcourse not..your just starting..just do your best.
