  1. you cant get one

  2. Your childhood wouldn't cause a problem but the depression and anxiety may.  Check with the agencies and see what they say.

  3. Maybe the depression and anxiety will, but I doubt the rough past will, unless you are a hardened criminal on a crime spree convicted and suspected of mass murder.

And if you are, just bribe them with Pringles and Cheesecake.

  4. i may be wrong but i think your medical records are confidential.

*please let me know what you figure out, bc i too am a single female on bipolar medication but would love to adopt a child.*

  5. You will probably be able to adopt. The people who interview you will make sure that you are capable of caring for a child. Your rough childhood won't prevent you from being able to adopt. Adopting is similar to raising your own kids, besides the attachment issues. if you can have a child and properly raise it no one should be able to tell you you can't parent an adoptive child

  6. I think you should talk to this lady about adopting. I think she may need her head checked, talking about killing a baby.

  7. Yes you will but it would be bad for the adoptee...

  8. Your prior background will not totally stop you from adopting a child as long as you are dealing with your current challenges of depression and anxiety.  How well you are currently prepared to be a parent will be the overriding issue in your ability to adopt.  Get whatever help you need for your current situation and not just meds.  Find a good therapist, take some parenting classes, and create a portfolio that will impress the adoption people.  All the best to you.  Joseph

  9. You can but it will take a very long time and adoption agents will have to keep checking up on you constantly.

  10. Your childhood... no.  But you won't be able to adopt if you are currently being treated for depression and anxiety.

  11. I highly doubt those issues would prevent you from adopting a child. You should be more concerned with whether you have a criminal record, that is usually the number one criterion for being disqualified from adoption process. I hope you make it!

  12. You? By yourself? Usually takes two people to legally adopt a child. Think it over. Raising a child is a very demanding responsibility.

  13. Are you going to apply to adopt through a private agency or a public agency??

Do you have a criminal record??

Is your anxiety/depression controlled and would your mental health professional give you a recommendation.

These are questions that would need to be answered.

If you are going to apply to adopt through say, the foster care system....call the social service agency (whatever it is called in your area) and request a home study be referred....there is a process and getting through it is quite extensive and if you are approved to adopt then....there you go.

Not knowing where you are from....it is hard to say for sure, but in the U.S. where I am from that is how this particular case would be handled.

    Good luck!!

  14. They put people giving up children and adopting children through counceling to make sure both are ready.  There are many things they go over with you.  I'm sure as long as you have a stable mind you will pass.

  15. no i dont think so

  16. Just in the case of your rough childhood - no!  I had a horrible childhood and should have been in foster care!  You will more than likely have to talk about this and how you handle things now when your home study is done - but you should be good to go.

Now in the case of your depression - I guess that would depend on how long you have been depressed, why you are depressed, what types of meds are you on, if you are in councelling...etc.
