Question:

Will I be able to close my lips....?

After I get my braces off, because when I close my lips it feels like my lips want to pull apart.

  1. Hi Ben P,

    Right now the brackets and wires are holding your lips away from the teeth. Therefore, you have to make an extra effort to close your lips. Most likely, right now you are stretching your lips to close your mouth completely.

    However, there will not be any problem to close your lips when those are removed. That is because :

    1. When the brackets and wires are removed, the area taken up by those hardware will be freed up.

    2. Your lips are nothing but soft tissue structures. Therefore, the current deformity is in no way a permanent thing. As soon as you get the braces off, the lips will collapse and rest on the teeth the normal way without any effort.

    So, rest assured. You will be fine. You will be able to close your lips completely.
