Question:

Will I be able to find all of this in Italy?

I'm going to be spending a few months in Rome next year. I'll be there during Thanksgiving (but I'm leaving before Christmas) and I was thinking it would be nice to make a traditional Thanksgiving meal for the new friends I make during my visit.

So, I was wondering if all of these foods are readily available in Italy...

Pumpkin (it's not Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie!)

Mustard (for the deviled egg filling)

Marshmallows (for sweet potato pie)

Cranberries

Molasses

Cream cheese

Graham crackers

Sour cream

Allspice

...hmmm, I think I'll be able to find everything else I would need easily enough. I know, though, that some things I might not be able to or that they will be very expensive...just as you can find some things in Italy that you can't find here.

Thank you very much!

  1. Rome is a very open city! You'll find everything in special and typical American markets!

  2. I live near Milan and we usually eat pumpkin fall and winter time . We cook it in a several ways but the best is "tortelli di zucca" (pumpkin's tortelli): It's a kind of pasta full of pumpkin, parmigiano cheese, eggs...delicious!!!).

If you'll come here in Mantua (one of the last Unesco city), I'll offer you !

  3. The cranberries, marshmallows, molasses, and graham crackers will be the most difficult things to come by here. You'll also have a tough time finding a whole turkey. Turkey parts are fairly easy, but you'll need to go to a butcher and arrange for a whole turkey in advance.

  4. I think you will find everything but the Molasses.

  5. You will find pumpkin, mustard cream cheese but you will have problem with the rest execially cranberries and marshmallows .We do not eat fruit "out of season" and november is not cranberries season. But you can find the fronzen one.TRy to look for marshmallows in some sweet shop and for the rest of the ingredients you will find something similar probably ,  but not the same.

The biggest problem will be the turkey....yuo have to order in advance a whole turkey..because the shops usually sell just part of it.
