Several years ago I had a citibank credit card that I did not pay. This item no longer appears on my credit card since its older than 7 years. Will I be able to get credit through this bank again or do they keep items on this on their file forever? My credit is good now but I was wondering if I would ever be able to get credit from companies who I had credit problems with that no longer appear on my credit....

  1. If they can't see it on your report, they may still be able to see it on their in-house system. Just dont apply with the same company...there's hundreds if not thousands out there. Try someone else.

  2. It depends on the company. Some, like American Express, will "blacklist" those who have defaulted on their accounts but I do not believe Citi is one of these.

I worked for Macy's Credit (Macy's cards are issued through Citi) and saw many customers who would open new accounts after having chargeoffs 2-3 years ago.

Go ahead and apply, you should be ok.
