Will I be able to go with him while he's in training or do I have to stay here?

My husband (who is in the Air Force) recently got orders, but has to attend training in another state first. Will I be able to live with him while he's training? The training only lasts about 16 weeks, I believe, and then it's off to his next duty station with a report date of late January/early February.

This'll be his second time PCSing and my first, so I'm not sure how this'll work. We're planning on putting our house up for sale soon, but aren't sure if I'll have to stay here to deal with movers, if I can go set up our home at our next base, or if I can live with him while he's training.

Thank you in advance!

  1. They have people on base that deal with this. Tell your huband to ask his  Flt. NCOIC.

  2. First check his orders.   They probably say "unaccompanied."  If that is the case,  the service is making no arrangements for a spouse or kids.  Only the service member is being covered,  both in transportation and in room arrangements. Quite often they have dorm rooms where people have to stay,  sharing the room with one to three other people.

If you went with him to an unaccompanied duty assignment, you would have to pay your own transportation and lodging.  In other words,  you would be staying at a motel somewhere and he would be living in a dorm.

Your best move would be to stay where you are doing whatever it is you are doing until he finishes school and returns home.

On the other hand if the orders say accompanied,  all you have to do is let them know you will be with him and they will make arrangements to match your desires.   However, for a 4 month tour,  I think it highly unlikely this will be an accompanied tour.

  3. check with the officer in charge. sometimes, they let wives go, others not.

    Good luck my friend!
