  1. You migfht be better to buy a region free DVD. I purchased an unlocker for my laptop and it didn't work. I was told that I would have to wait until they had more models available so be careful. Most laptops are set to a region and as said above will end up staying on the last region chosen. I think you can change 4 times and then it locks but it should say when you check My computer on your laptop

  2. As said previously, most DVD drives have a limited number of times you can change the region code, after that it freezes on the last code selected.

There is, however, software that overrides this hardware lock.  It's not free, but it could be cheaper than purchasing a full-blown multi-region DVD drive.

  3. Don't change your region, and don't waste your money on a separate unit - go to http://www.slysoft.com and download the program AnyDVD... it will strip region coding and you can play any region DVD on your laptop.  You can also copy them to another disc without the region coding for a backup and to watch them on your other DVD players.

    Don't do anything illegal.

  4. Hi there

    Ok here we go.

All UK laptops will only play region 2 or region free DVDs. Region 1's are encoded differently. Your laptop will allow you to play them so many times but after about 3 times it will lock your PC to region1 and will not allow you to play any UK DVDs. Having said that there are methods you can try that allow you to play the DVD but they are complicated.

    1. Flash the bios of your DVD drive to be multi region. A very technical solution but it will then play everything. However you can damage your drive if you try to flash it with the wrong software.

    2. Buy specialist software that allows you to play any region although these can be hit and miss and expensive.

    Take a look at this

    3. Convert the movie from region 1 to region free using Fab dvd decrypter software. This is probably the best option but again you need the software.

    here it is

All can be done on the cheap with a little bit of searching on the web and some technical know how. Limewire or utorrent springs to mind. ;-)

A multi region dvd player may be the best way to go but wait!

Do you own a normal stand alone dvd player? Or do you plan to buy one from ASDA on the cheap? :-)

If so most dvd players can be unlocked using engineering codes found on the web. Very easy to do. almost as easy as typing in 1,2,3 on your remote.

Best thing to do is check the web for the make and model number of the one you have or the one you plan to get before you purchase it.

    Hope it makes sense?

  5. If you have windows media player you can change the region settings of your laptop but only so many times and then it will say you have run out of conversions

Invest in a cheap multi region dvd player or download software for your laptop to watch both
