Last year, I had a 4.4 GPA the first semester, but it went down a lot due to the second semester. I'm not exactly sure what my current GPA is, but I would assume it's in the low to mid 3.0's. Anyway, I'm going to be a sophmore this year. I want to at least have a 3.8 by the end of the year, so I can be a candidate or whatever for the 'Honor Society'.. I'll be in one AP Class, 4 Honors, a language which only has one level, and a gym/tech class that doesn't even count toward the GPA. The highest value an AP class has on the GPA is a 5. something. That is if you get an A . An A in honors is a little over a 4.0. I slacked off a little bit last year due to severe insomnia. I'd go days without sleeping, so it was hard to concentrate and study. That doesn't matter anymore though.

Will I be able to get into a good college? Does freshmen year count as much? What do I need to do to work hard, and maintain very good grades?

Also, what clubs will impress colleges? Math, investment, art, science, etc.? I can't do drama. You don't have to answer this part.

  1. yes

  2. Yes, freshmen year counts at the vast majority of colleges and universities.  Being involved in clubs related to what you want to major in definitely helps, especially if you get really involved and do a project or something.  It's really hard to say about your GPA without a lot more detail, but it sounds like you'll be able to get into a decent school at least.  Remember, colleges ask for your GPA on a 4.0 scale, which means unweighted, so you'll have to calculate your unweighted GPA.

  3. Some colleges do not even look at freshman year but even when they do its how you end that matters the most.  As long as you graduate with a good GPA overall you should be fine.  As for clubs, any club will be fine, just join what you enjoy.
