  1. My best advice is to hydrate well before the run, get in a zone, (I used to think about all my ex-girlfriends and I was running away from them) The biggest thing for me though, was method breathing or controlled brerathing.

When you run, every step you take or exhale half a breath.

(inhale 1-2 ) (exhale 1-2) so inhale twice > exhale twice > you should have taken 4 strides all together.

it worked for me, I ran 5-8 miles everyday for over a year.

  2. Do you have time to practice running. I would think that would be your best bet. Also you could be drinking too much water to run. I believe the rule is 8 glasses a day.

Good for you on changing eating habits. Continue to do that!

Good luck to you running the mile. Stay at a good steady pace and don't be looking at others running. Keep your mind focused on the finish line.

  3. -If you are allowed to take a water bottle with you, do that so you stay hydrated.

-I love to run with my ipod, so take music if you are allowed.

-Don't think about running, think about other things. If you think about it to much you will "psych" yourself out.

-Think about how embarrassing it was last time so you won't do it again.

    I hope I could help.

  4. Wow. I struggled with the same thing!! CHILL at the starting line. People usually have a tendency of sprinting when the whistle is blown. But I have learned from experience that if you just stay in pace from start to finish, you will be better off. Now, since you still learning about running (or at least that is what I got out of it) you CAN stop for a break here and there. And it isnt all about phisical ability. You also have to prepare yourself mentally. Set goals. For instance, "Okay...from here the the end of the bleachers..." Or whatever. And try to focus on one step at a time. Helps me a good bit. I hope I didnt confuse you too much...lol. Good luck!! If I did confuse you email me!! Tee hee.

by the way, being fit doesnt always mean eating right. OF CORSE it is GREAT for your body. But being fit in my opinion is being able to run and stay running.

and another tip...dont drink TOO much water before running. It will make you as sick as a dog.

  5. you'll do better but it would've been easier if you were running for a while before this.  don't eat before you run, only drink water before you run but not too much, and remember not to walk.  if you need to jog at a walking pace but don't walk.  that's what i do and I'm on a cross country team.  good luck.
