I think that it might be cloudy but have not found full reports. Does anyone know? I am planning on going out on August 12 at 4:00 A.M. Will they hold up until the 13th if it is too cloudy?

  1. Perseus will be high overhead at 4:00 AM...The quarter moon sets about 2:00AM...but if the weather holds you'll have a hard time seeing them..thunder tonight, showers tomorrow night and Wednesday and Thursday cloudy then Friday partly cloudy...so with Friday night to be partly cloudy...it might be your best bet in the next five days.  Good luck star gazing!

  2. The perseids have a very long range.  You might be able to see a few on the 23rd, if you wish.  The peak is tonight/tomorrow morning, but this shower has a longer duration, than say, the quadrantids.  Due to the moon getting a little fuller and brighter a little bit every night, and setting later, the three or four days before the peak would have been better this year than the days immediately after it.  But if you have a clear, dark, unobscured  sky, and a little bit of patience, you'll have a great viewing experience.  If it's cloudy tonight/tomorrow morning, try the next night/morning.  I would suggest going out a little earlier than 4am local time, at least from my latitude (45 degrees north), the morning twilight makes the sky a little too bright.  i've been suggesting around 2-3am to my friends.
