Will I be excused from jury duty?

I was summoned for jury duty and It is an inconvenient time as it is for most people. I am a full time college student, and together with work hours and my internship I am working 30+ hours a week. Is this enough stress to warrant an excuse?

  1. not likely

  2. nO

  3. Not sure where you are but in Texas being a fulltime student is an exemption.

  4. No.  Both students and teachers CAN request a postponement but you will have to commit to a time frame, i.e.  during your winter or spring break.

But you will NOT be excused.

  5. IDK PROBALLY... SAY YUR FRIEND DIED OR SUMTIN

  6. not bloody likely

  7. I think the best you can hope for is to postpone this duty, and be eligible at another date.  Jury duty is a civic duty, and it is an inconvience for most everyone so just get on with it.

  8. I think you might be able to be excused. Look on the back of that jury duty notice and there are a few exceptions. I think if your a parent with small children, a student, or the sole provider of a family. A few other reasons too. Check it out.

  9. This is from the state of Maine, but I would guess it is similar everywhere.

"Students or seasonal workers can often defer their jury service to a time of the year when it impacts least upon their other obligations. Such requests should be made prior to the first day of jury service."

You could call the clerk of courts office and explain your situation and see what they say.

  10. No probably not.

  11. No, I don't think so.

Jury duty is your civic responsibility, you should be proud to be asked..blah..blah...blahhh.

    You need a better excuse.

People are gonna have a fit over this one, but I'll tell ya anyway.

I went one day, they asked me if there was any reason that i should not serve on the jury. I told them yes, I was not a good judge of people and thought it would not br fair. If I ever get in trouble, I want to be judged by experts, the ones who have studied lying. I have met my peers, I don't trust most of them to drive my car, none the less determine my fate.

Surprisingly, I have never been called to jury duty again.

  12. I believe they send you a paper in the mail asking you if you need to reschedule and the latest possible date you can. I chose the last date possible, mailed it back to them, and got out of it. They then later sent me a letter saying that my duties were no longer needed at the time.

  13. ASK.

  14. you still have to go but they may dismiss you as that is legitimate excuse.

  15. You could try it. I was summoned for jury duty when I had class and they didn't really care so I went and answered their questions wrong. For instance, if they ask if you've ever broken an arm say yes because chances are the case involves a person who broke their arm and is suing someone. And since you answered yes you might be bias and they won't use you.

  16. I would just try to get through it and dont use it as an excuse because then they will think that you are not reliable and  my dad has to work 60 hours a day I feel for you

  17. Try to get out of it.  They usually take no for an answer. Remember to give an excuse.

  18. you dont have to do jury duty if you are a full time student

  19. No...they don't care if your name comes up.  I was in the same position about 10 years ago and I still had to go.

  20. Only if you know the defendant.

  21. You will need to apply, and promptly, to find out - in many jurisdictions, your situation would be enough. Add in notes from both your employer and your school.

  22. nope, sorry jury duty is much more important than whatever you are doing and you might just get in deep trouble if you skip

  23. YES it is.  I've had summons twice while I was a college student, there is a form to fill out, and you have to send proof that you are in class, but they let you out of it. I haven't had to go either time.

  24. Im sure being a fulltime college student is enough to get you out of jury duty
