Will I be in trouble when I want to chance my j1 to student visa?

I came here to America through an agency and I don't work for them any more.I would like to know whether the agency may cause any trouble.Because they keep saying"You have to turn back to your country if you don't want to work for us."

  1. Talk to an immigration attorney. We are all amateurs and volunteers here. You don't want to gamble that we might be wrong.


  2. It will be difficult and time-consuming to change your status.  If you want to go ahead, here is the process and the I-539 form to use.  You first have to apply and be accepted by a US university.

    There is nothing the agency can actually do, as long as you did try working for them and decided after giving it a fair chance that it wasn't working out.  They are no doubt concerned because they need to show a very high rate of return for their customers in order to keep doing business in the country you came from, and to retain the confidence of the US embassy or consulate that issued the visa.
