I am in work at the mo...I feel like absolute c**p...I was physically sick before I came in this morning, i've got a throbbing headache, and my whole body is aching. I have been diagnosed with crohns disease, which gives me severe stomach pains and diohrea and ive had a lot of time off sick. I'm currently on my final warning for taking time off. I started work at 3.45am and I'm supposed to be here until 3.15pm, but as I said I feel like c**p and I want to go home, but i'm scared to ask in case it leads to me being sacked.

I can't afford to lose my job!

Do my employers expect me to never be off sick again?

I don't know what i'm supposed to do...can anyone help?...has anyone else faced this situation before?

  1. talk to your manager.if you feel like this all time why dont your doctor put you on long term sick.?

  2. If you're sick, go home. If they say anything, tell them to ***** off. Stand up for yourself.

  3. Provided the company can show it has acted “reasonably”, by, for example, taking steps to investigate the nature of the sickness and absence, issuing warnings regarding future sickness and consulting a doctor about the nature of your illness, then yes, they do have the right to terminate your contract.

Dismissal on the grounds of capability is regarded as a fair reason.

However, you need to think of yourself and for that matter of your colleagues. You might have something not connected with your Crohns, such as the 'flu, and no-one will thank you for spreading it around!  Health is more important than a job . . .

  4. I genuinely DO sympathise with you, believe me, that is true, but you have to accept that you work for a business not a charity. A business is in business to make money!  Most companies will have a limit on the amount of sick time an employee can take in any one year before they have to consider whether that person is becoming un-employable in real terms. No business can carry on employing someone indefinately whose affliction affects their ability to carry out the work they were employed to do consistently.

  5. I don't know the full answer, but I know employees have more rights if they've worked in the job for a certain length of time, otherwise they can be sacked without any reason.

I think you need to check your rights, as this is an issue that's going to affect more than just today.

And perhaps have an agreement to lose pay if you're sick for more than so much time - it's better than losing your job.

  6. Aaw what an awful way to feel - honey go on home and get some rest. Next, see your doctor and explain how much this disease is affecting your work.  It sounds like your symptoms are not being adequately controlled, but they can be with the right combination of diet and medication, and perhaps this is the key to making your work manageable. Once you've seen your doctor (and they've hopefully put you on the right treatment) have a frank conversation with your employers about how you don't want to lose your job, and that you're doing all you can so that you don't have to take so much time off.  If they are good employers, they should understand. Beyond that - what on earth else could you possibly do? If they still don't like it, perhaps it's time to look for another job? Maybe one without such ridiculous hours (12 hrs 3am-3pm seems really harsh to me!) and one with a more understanding employer. Good luck sweetheart.

  7. You can't be sacked because of a Chronic health issue. Go and call the doctor (most have an answering service) and have them fax over a Dr.'s note or something to your work...they can't fire you then. You might want to look into your employer's policies. Where I work we have a kind of paperwork that you fill out stating that you have a chronic illness that causes you to be out of work alot, that will keep you from getting canned.

  8. Employers will usually cover long-term sickness in their policy on absence or in their company handbook. Most employers will be concerned if a worker has a 'long-term' sickness that is causing frequent or prolonged absence. They will also have to consider how long your job can be kept open for you. they can request you permit them to contact your GP (which u are under no obligation to agree).  they can also refer you to your companies occupation health assessor to see if you are capable to do the job or not.  you CAN be dismissed for excessive sickness on some grounds

  9. most employers say dont come to work within 24 hours of you being sick or getting the squirts etc. if your on final warning then that means if you go over the average bradford index again they would sack you. why hasnt your doctor put u on long term sick?

the bottom line is if you are too ill to work then dont go.

  10. tell them youve got flu and need to go home before rest of work force is wiped out with it. make sure your dr gives you sick note.  ask your dr for medication to help you cope with the crohns. the employers could be unkind to you like give you the rotton jobs to try and make your life h**l so you want to leave. get a union on your side for advice.

  11. You have every right to go home if your sick go to your gp and get a sick note if you have a doctors note you are legally covered, and  what do you want to have a diohrea attack at your desk just speak to your boss if you are really sick he cannot sack you.

  12. This sort of dilemma usually attracts many unhelpful responses, however well meaning they are.Explain to your doctor exactly your problem and your situation , bear in mind he can only concern himself with your physical condition, perhaps he may refer your another specialist, the bottom line is that at the time of his examination of you your condition rendered you incapable of work.Your employer will decide in time to act within the law and offer you to resign with an agreed figure dependant on your period of service thus far, its a hard world he(employer ) cannot afford to keep you under the present circumstances, and you, not able to work, consistently, for him. Does this help?

  13. if you are ill you need to go home at least you turned up for work and if you are that poorly they will have no objections, if you have an ongoing condition then you need to speak to your bosses about this, however if you are taking loads of time off a trip to your G.P. may help to try and get the condition under control. as long as you have a sick note you cannot be fired! if you have just been off with no note then you can be given a warning. you need to speak to bosses as soon as to make them aware of the situation and explain that you are seeking medical advice to try and get the condition under control, you obviously cant go on like this as without help it will only get worse and you are letting other co workers down, i hope you get sorted soon

  14. Go home, they will not be able to sack you if you make a Doctors appointment this would be unfair dismissal. You must cover your self though be at least contacting a doctor and attaining a sick note, the sick note is your protection. Make an effort to ensure your work could be covered or at least make it look like youv'e tried to get it covered.
