Question:

Will I damage the fabric if I use a ballpoint needle?

I need to fix a dress I have, and all my needles are ballpoints, which are intended for knits. The dress is all polyester, with an underlayer and a sheer one on top. So, sewing experts, help! Is it okay to use a ballpoint needle to sew this dress, or should I go buy regular point needles?

  1. They will not hurt the fabric.

But use the smallest one you have.

  2. Ball point needles are fine.

  3. I am no expert at sewing by any means. But needles are cheap. Buying a card means that you won't ruin the dress and you still have needles for future use. I have had a small sewing kit from my days in the Army for 40 years and the needles are still good. LOL

    Just my thoughts on it.
