Will I do jail time for a class a misdemeanor in illinois?

Unfortunately I (like most teenagers) made some horrible mistakes in the past. Most recently, I've been going to court for being pulled over for misc reasons. The plot thickens, however, because each time my license was suspended. I've been pulled over for failure to display my vehicle sticker, improper left hand turn etc...No DUI's or anything like that. I was able to get two of the tickets vacated my final court date is coming up in september. I am a single mother who works, and I also go to school. Is there anyone out there that can shed a little light on my situation? I'm terribly frightened that I might have to spend time in jail and honestly I don't know what would happen with my 1yr old.....

----I would gratefully appreciate you guys' feed back.

  1. You will not get jail time for it this time.  Continue to drive on a suspended DL though and the judge will get real tired of seeing you show up!  Might throw you in county just to teach you a lesson.

If you are driving to get back and forth to work, you need to try and get a hardship DL that will allow you to drive to work and back (ONLY) legally.

  2. A class a misdemeanor can land you 1 year in the county jail. It really depends on your lawyer and the district attorney. Usually you can plea bargain it to probation. try to make better decisions in the future.

  3. No. You'll get a year of probation as long as you plead guilty.

If you try to fight it and take it to trial, yes you will go to jail.

  4. The important thing you forgot to say is why is it suspended???

The tickets you state are not enough to suspend your license - but you indicate two tickets were vacated?  I think they may have just gone to bond forfeiture/judgment - not a big deal.  Get new court dates on your citations you did not go to court on/or pay a fine on get a supervision or whatever disposition and get your license reinstated.

Unless you are from a small county in Illinois - and I still doubt you will - you will not see a day of jail time.  Your problems will begin if you do not get your license back and you continuously get caught.
