Will I ever have a chance? HELP?

I'm on First Offender Probation for entering a vehicle...3 charges.

I was told my record would show that I was not convicted after probation is complete...

I am going to a junior college. If I take computer programming or business administration will I be able to get a job after I graduate?

Will I even be accepted into the college if I'm on probation?

Thanks

  1. You might get into college.  As for after college, you'd have better luck using your computer programming degree to get a waitstaff job.  As for getting a good tech job, there ain't no way SW of Pinckney, MI you'll get one.  Too many background checks.  Too much competition.  Too many company secrets.  Too much security.  Too many non-criminals wanting the same job.  (I'm sorry to be the knife in your hope balloon.)  I also agree with another poster's comment about felony vs. misdemeanor differences.

Use your MBA to start a good business if your credit is good.  That'll get you further.  I sincerely wish you luck.

  2. Yes there is life after mistakes.  As long as you are honest in your job or college interviews and bring it up first that you made some mistakes and that your working hard to change.  They will see that as a positive sign.  Just remember that this is a part of making mistakes and sometimes you have to keep paying the price.  Don't let it get you down.  Stay the course and keep on trying.  Good luck.

  3. The trick is that most job applications ask if you were ever arrested and/or convicted of something.  So, you're not convicted, but you have been arrested.

I'm in a similar situation and my attorneys don't even know the answer, so I guess I'll find out the hard way in about 4 months.

  4. Getting into the school probably won't be a problem. As to getting a job afterward, it depends when you finish your probation. I would ask your probation officer or the court if it is showing now on a CRC report.

It also matters quite a bit whether the conviction was a felony or misdemeanor crime.
