Question:

Will I get a Stimulus check

I had a problem on my taxes where I was claimed as dependent. Being claimed as a dependent means I don't get a stimulus check.

The problem has been fixed and I am no longer claimed as a dependent. I was wondering before I call the IRS if anyone has any info on this?

  1. What you have to have is a correctly filled out tax form for yourself. If your tax form needs to be amended, then you need to file a 1040X also. A 1040X is a tax amendment form There is a note section on the form to explain exactly why you need to change your tax form. You can print out form and instructions from irs.gov. If you otherwise can claim the stimulus on the grounds of the IRS rules, then you should get a payment. It can take a few months to process a 1040X. You can also find the guidelines for the stimulus payments on the website.

If you believe your individual tax form is correct, then the IRS should catch it automatically and send you a letter to let you know they will be making a change to your record, and explain why. Then you should get payment within a couple of weeks. You can call them to check if they are processing this if you think you are entitled and it's taking too long.

I had to file a 1040X myself this year, and eventually got my stimulus payment.

  2. I'm claimed as a dependent but I also made a lot of money last year.

I didn't get a check, and neither did my dad (who claims me). I was pretty mad about this and have no clue what happened.

I didn't know they were still even sending out the checks, to be honest with you.
