Question:

Will I get a round pregnant belly being overweight?

I am 19 weeks 3 days pregnant. I am desperate for a pregnant belly! I am 5’4” and prepregnancy I was 208lbs. I have only gained 7lbs. I have been in maternity pants since I was 16 weeks. I have what some people call a “double belly” (my stomach splits horizontally in the middle at my belly button). It’s not that big honestly, about an inch or so. I can feel my uterus right below my belly button now and I have started feeling the baby moving. It is a very exciting time!!

But…I can’t help but continue to wonder when I will get a round pregnant belly. When will I pop out? Will the top of my stomach fuse with my lower stomach? When do you think this will happen? People tell me they can’t tell I am pregnant and are shocked when I tell them I am almost 5 months. It is very upsetting for me. I am desperate for a round pregnant belly and have been since I found out we were expecting.

Someone out there has had this problem, I know it! Please let me know how your pregnancy went and then you started to show. I appreciate any kind of story or situation like mine. (Please keep your diabetes/overweight comments to yourself, me and my doctor are dealing with my weight, I walk and take care of myself everyday).

  1. I'm 5'1" and was 170 pre-pregnancy.  I easily hid my pregnancy from everyone at work till the beginning of fifth month, then I told them. No one had any idea. I did ended up  with a giant round belly later on. The thing is that even when you start looking pregnant, since you're heavy, people are afraid they might be wrong and offend you if they say something. Around 6 months a lot of people told me that they thought I was pregnant, but didn't want to say anything, as they weren't sure.

Three months ago I told my  husband our neighbor is pregnant again, as it seemed clear to me she is. Well she isn't!! I'm sure glad I didn't say anything!

So my advice is - advertise!! Tell people you are 4 months pregnant. Because if people around you are polite, they might never mention it on their own.

    And congratulations!!

  2. many over weight women don't even show while they are pregnant.  If you are over weight they do want you gain less too.  All the over weight women I know never really showed and never got the round belly.  They usually got bigger in the face and that's about it.  The smaller you are the rounder the belly is.  The shocked reaction is common from the people i knew and the people who have posted on all the boards i talk on just because it's harder to get the round belly because there is already room in there for them.  As long as your baby is healthy I wouldn't worry about what your belly looks like.  I am 38 weeks and by belly looks like a perfect round object, and all the comments are annoying.  Every where I go, you look like you have a basketball in there, etc.  Provide your baby with the nutrients he/she needs.  When he/she comes out those looks will mean a lot more to you then how your belly looked.  congrats and best of luck.

  3. I know a few overweigh preggo women and they did get the round preggo belly. It didn't happen until much later in the pregnancy, like closer to 30 weeks, but it did happen!

  4. Honey I'm big too.  To h**l with the haters.  Anyhow I got big right away with my first.  This one I just look heavier and that sucks.  Who wants to look just fatter right?  I want to look pregnant too.  It'll happen sometime. I got bigger and rounder after my 4th month.  I'm coming up on my 4ht and so I hope I get rounder.  And my tummy never looked like one big round, only if I had on maternity pants with the "kangaroo pocket" front.  Congrats.

  5. I'm sorry, i don't think that you will get a pregnant round belly with your weight problem, especially since you have extra fat stored in the abdomen area. You will probably start showing more at the end of pregnancy

  6. I know of several of my friends that were overweight and they got the round pregnant belly. It happened a little later than some, but it was definitely there by week 26 or so. You don't have much longer to go until you should be able to tell. Best of luck, hon!
