Question:

Will I get into Clemson?

Next year I am studying abroad in Chile for my entire senior year. I am very worried, though, that I won't get into Clemson because I will not have a chance to take all the AP courses I would have taken if I wasn't studying abroad. I haven't taken my SATs or ACT but got a 200 (out of 240) on the PSAT as a sophmore, so hopefully that will go up this year when I take it for real as a junior.

By the end of this year, I will have taken (I won't bother to list my freshman courses):

English: College Prep Composition, Argumentation, Issues in Modern Literature, American Lit. Enriched, Online British Lit (had to take it online because of the study abroad thing)

Science: Biology, Physics, and Chemistry all enriched, but no AP's!!

Math: through Pre-Calculus

History: Global Issues, Government Online, Economics Online, and AP US History

Spanish: Through AP Spanish

I have a 4.0 gpa, but this is with only 2 AP classes.

I'm in a fair amount of activities (school plays, choir, NHS, volunteer tour guide)

Plus I just started a lifeguarding job.

Should I not study abroad so that I can get in my AP courses?

  1. You should be fine, especially if you're a SC resident.  Go abroad, that will look great on your application and be a great experience.  Unique things like that - and Chile is unique - can certainly make up for not taking AP classes.
