Question:

Will I get similar jobs with a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering?

I would like to start a career at Google, and I seriously composed a 15 page report on how to do it.

The only thing I'm not sure on is: can I get in working on computers with an Electrical Engineering degree with a computer hardware focus, or do I need a Computer Engineering degree?

I'm really neither interested in working on power systems, nor do I want to sit in front of a computer 8 hours either. I'm trying to find a harmonious balance between computer software/hardware.

So, Electrical/Computer Engineering?

  1. Well you could always design a new computer system and patten it.

Or you could e-mail a college career adviser, I think that they would have the best answer for this question.

Try running a www.careerbuilder.com job search.  I'm searching through them for a Mechanical Engineering position and had the best luck with them.  Be sure to carefully read the job descriptions that are provided and you might find the all encompassing job you're looking for.

Personally I think that if you minored in one and majored in the other you should be alright.  Also the company that hires you may send you back to school to complete the other.

So really ask a career counselor, do the www.careerbuilder.com, and go for it.
