Question:

Will I get the rest of my Pell Grant money?

My grant is $2,155.00. I enrolled for Summer. This is my first time in college. The grant is for 2007-2008. My classes are only $459.00. When I asked the lady on the phone about the refund money she acted like I was asking something dumb. I need it for text books and RENT!

On the site there is a form http://www.brcc.cc.la.us/fa_refund/index.php

But I am still not sure will I actually get the $1,700 back?

  1. No, you won't get the rest.  The $2,155 is the amount for a full-time student taking 12 credit hours in a fall or winter term (a 15 week term).  The max you can usually get in one semester of summer courses is $1,078 for 6 credit hours; if you're in 3 credit hours, you will get less.  The Pell is pro-rated based on number of credit hours.

  2. It depends on the grant.  Was it written for just classes or was it for college expenses?  The lady on the phone should have been able to access that information for you, the number said it was the FA office number.  Try calling again and asking about what your grant covers.  If you get a refund, set up the direct deposit, it is so much easier!

  3. It depends on how many hours you are enroll in.

Usually, in the summer you will not get the full 2,155 for the semester.  This is the amount for full time at a regular semester... like fall and spring (taking 12 or more hours)  If you go in the summer you only take 1 or 2 classes instead of 4.  (Making your bill less).

You will likely only be credited for half, or $1,077.50 then you would minus your $459.00 and have $618.50 left over.  Then you would minus any charges for books, fees, technology and or library fees, parking permit etc.  If you have any money left over, then you would get that back.
