  1. vegan? doesn't that mean you use nothing derived from animals?  so sorry asking questions, just want to be clear.  have you given up "fossil fuels" once animals, yet?  Vegan is a nice goal to strive for, but seems a bit unrealistic if you really think about it.  you'd be living in a cave and only eat what naturally fell from plants -trees n'stuff.  just try to stick to a good plant-based diet & stay in school.  and check out my-myspace blog - it may help answer this better.  you can find it by my name - it is the same there too.  good luck  :)

  2. Cross sectional anatomy refers to all the cross sections in the human body you would have to put through an MRI machine or other radiological machinery, in order to examine the anatomical structures within them. I am not sure if I am explaining it properly, but basically if you've seen black and white MRI or CT scan images, you can see cross sections.

I recently examined one from a patient's left knee, which was performed at various elevations, so that I could analyze whether he had injured any structures behind his patella. The patient was a 13 year old boy that slipped at a park. The pictures looked like a series of black and white slides, just showing what's inside the knee from top to bottom. Here's an example:

That happens to be a thigh.

The large white center is actually the femur - you can see all the muscle and fat around it.

You might have to dissect animal parts in some classes, in particular Anatomy or Physiology. You will also work with human cadavers in those classes. I've found most medical programs require you to take Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology.

  3. I'm sure you will do some animal dissection. You just have to keep reminding yourself that this is part of the training needed to do your job.

This will give you an idea - Cross-Sectional Anatomy

  4. You might have to participate in animal organ dissection in your Anatomy & Physiology class, but that depends on your institution.  When I took A&P I didn't have to dissect organs, but I did study a dissected human kidney.

Cross-sectional anatomy is basically the human body in "slices" or cross-sectional images... it's necessary to understand and interpret MRI images.

Also, radiology films aren't vegan.  The film is made with gelatin.
