Question:

Will I have to pay for my speeding ticket?

I was going 35 in a 25 and basically coasted down a hill. A friend of mine told me they'll let it go since it's my first time and I can just take a class. I was in a residential zone if that helps.

  1. Pay it.

    Pay it.

    Pay it.

  2. Of course you have to pay for it.  That's the point of receiving a citation.  If however you can convince the judge to allow it...if your court system allows it, then you may be able to find alternatives.

  3. You can choose to take a class but It'll show on a record that you didn't pay it, but If I were you Id pay it.

  4. Why don't you just call your local court and ask about its rules?  You haven't told us where this happens, so we can't tell you the laws in that area.  Where I live, you have to pay it or plead not guilty and hope they somehow agree.  Coasting 10 miles over the limit would not be excused here and cost a lot more than just mailing in the fine.  We don't even have this traffic school stuff that so many talk about here on Y!A.  If you don't pay it on time, the fines increase drastically.

  5. Every state is different, but in my state and those surrounding us, if you have not had a ticket in 3 years and you get one, you send it in Not Guilty and when you go to court they drop it under a good driving record clause. Do not pay it if you have not had a ticket in the past 3 years! There is no class to take, they just drop it.

  6. Um...you may have to take a class AND definitely pay the ticket.

  7. First of all, PAY IT! You don't want police knocking on your door with a warrant for your arrest because you didn't pay a traffic ticket, come on now. Then do whatever you have to do following that, traffic school, court, whatever, it's not the end of the world.
