Question:

Will I have to watch with the mute button on?

I've asked before whether the media hate the Wings, and concluded that it's just boring to say 'The Wings are Very Good' so they don't say it.

Combine that with the Sid Crosby Fan Club - (and I don't hate Sid, I'm a mom, and I think he's an excellent player) am I likely to need treatment for my blood pressure if I listen to the commentary and analysis?

  1. Hey at least it's not ESPN monday night football with Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser. those buffoons are unlistenable.

Yeah it'll be love-fest for Sidney and will be nauseating.

Since Dallas lost I don't need to worry about it this finals. I can see the score on the ticker or online the next morining and that's all I'll need.

  2. First of all, hockey without sound can be liberating - you see aspects of the game you miss when the crowd and/or the announcers distract you.

That being said, I think this series will take care of the media after a couple games.  Either Sid &Co. will shine and deserve a lot of the attention they are getting, or Detroit will queit the announcers the way they ultimately shut down the Dallas Admiration Society.

However, the first couple games might be frustrating -- they don't always call them as they are played.

  3. Sorry no idea Gladys, my kids are usually talking to d**n much for me to hear the commentators.

  4. You should be fine after the middle of the first period of game one....that's when Kronwall will to lay out Crosby with another open ice hit.   Unfortunately, He'll be banned from hockey forever for the hit.

Okay....it'll prbably still be unbearable as I'm sure the play-by-play will be interupted by bursts of crying over the loss of Crosby.

  5. As a fan of neither team, I just want to enjoy great Stanley Cup Finals hockey. I hope it goes seven games.

  6. I tend to always ignore the broadcasters anyway. I can see what is going on without  all their fluff. They will be saying Sid's name constantly, So I just will tune it out as usual

  7. I'm sure that'd be a good idea.  Eddie Olcyyzyzxzxyzuk is a complete moron and spews forth verbal diarrhea after every play.

  8. As much as NFL fans like myself were sick of all the Favre loving from guys like Madden. Its only gonna get worse with Crosby so get used to it.

I never say broadcasters or the NHL are rooting for one team over the other but IMO the NHL would feel they'd have a better story if the Golden boy won his first after almost having to relocate.Rather then Nick getting his third but McCarty playing is a good story as well.If that happens Sportscenter here they come.

  9. Guy above, joe is the caps anouncer, thus the disdain for the pens.  Although he is not really biased like some are.

All the guys on nbc suck.  Only forslund and beninati on versus are ok with me.  They need to get gary thorne doing playXplay, or at least that guy with cbc, and more importantly, get some games on ESPN!

  10. You should do whatever pleases you......try this: turn on the tube with mute and listen to the commentary on your favorite sports radio station.......

  11. I completely agree, not sure if they hate the wings, but they sure love sidney, by the way how long are they gonna call him Sid The Kid, what until he's 30?

  12. I'm almost as sick of the Wings as I am the Spurs, and I hate the Pens.  With  that being said, I'm going to watch the Finals this year with the Off button on.

@ Duffman: Last time I checked Ed Olczyk has won more Stanley Cups than you, therefore I'd rather listen to him talk hockey :p

  13. I don't know if the media hates the Wings, but I know what kind of coverage the Finals will get.  Consider:

The first two games are on Versus.  Versus is owned by Comcast.  Comcast is owned by Ed Snider.  The Flyers are owned by Ed Snider.  The Penguins just beat the Flyers.  See where this is going? (Anybody who listened to Joe Beninati and Daren Eliot would realize they were pro-Philly - or anti-Pittsburgh).

Secondly, the color analyst for the series will be fired Pens coach Ed Olczyk.  In his more recent appearances on Pittsburgh games, his bitterness over his dismissal has seeped through.  So expect lots of pro-Red Wings commentary over the next fortnight.

Save the blood pressure medication.  Just enjoy an entertaining Finals.
