  1. Since you speak Spanish fluently, you should get along just fine, but if your Spanish was  lacking, it could be a miserable experience.

  2. i just remembered my ex was from costa rico. lol not puerto rico ;) i think puerto rico sounds fine ^^ you'll never know until you go. it's worth a shot. you're lucky!

  3. My exhusband was born and raised in Guanica, PR.  I am white, born and raised in NJ

dont be nervous.  i went there and i totally loved it.  i was there in 1993 and i would love, love, love to go back.  All the people are warm and friendly.  You will not feel out of place.

Go to the carnival, light up fish, the mountains, dancing, home made meat patties, swimming is a must.

  4. Just think about the many good friends that you will have.

    Fun-fun-under the sun.

  5. Be friendly and you will make a lot of friends.

  6. Lucky you! I graduated from U of PR in 2005. The best time of my life. Enjoy...

  7. hopefully you will not just like it, you will love it. It's normal to be nervous when you are about to attend a University wether it's in P.R. or elsewhere.Time is what it takes to adjust to the whole environment. You shall meet students who are also there for the first time. And those who are already from the Island who will make you feel welcomed. In either case, you should be fine. Stick with those with whom you have things in common. Congratulations and Good Luck!

  8. well, about liking preferences, it all depends on u. i havent heard about someone that does not like PR, when they come as tourists, they always have something positive to say, and some complain about a few things here and there, but its no biggie. i think u will like it very much, dont be nervous, u will make friends quickly and very quickly if u know english, lol

UPR its really cool and u will feel comfortable. have fun!

  9. d**n, I should have went to that college!

  10. I often go to Puerto Rico University or UP as they say here, to do genealogical and historical investigations using their facilities; and I can say it is nice there. I like it even though I am just a visitor. The personal/staff of the libraries, historical institute and other facilities are nice. Some may lool serious, but it is because of such a high volume of use of the facilities there is a lot of work to do and it is not easy, but it is nice. Now, I am talking about the Rio Piedras Campus, I sincerely do not know about the Bayamon campus or the Mayaguez campus. But from what I have heard about these two campus' is that they are nice also.

I know that you will make friends. Since it is new to you, you just let time take you alonog. Don't rush into anything. Get yourself aquainted first with the facilities, observe the faculty, students, and other people there and before you know it you will have friends. Also you can meet others from other places due to interexchange of students from other countries.

If you are at the Rio Piedras Campus, the train has a station there and there are Metropolitan Bus Authority buses running. Also, the Rio Piedras Campus is right in Rio Piedras which is a town that is now being repaired. Repaired because the mayor wants to fix it so there will be more visitors to go there and people can obtain apartments and houses to live in the city.

But basically I know you will like the University. There are also many activities that are planned so you can join in.

The Rio Piedras campus also has the Botanical Gardens. I have been there and they are so beautiful.

Now, here the prices are rising.  Gas for cars is 92 cents per liter. Here it is by liter not by the gallon.  There are taxes we have to pay. State tax is 7 cents on the dollar and city is 1 cent on a dollar. But the city tax in Rio Piedras impossed by our mayor is working because he is providing free trolley services because the private public buses are not really up to expectations and he expanded the routs and put out more trolleys. Also if you are in the Rio Piedras Campus and use the Metroplitan buses and if you need to use the train, just take your student ID to the Martinez Nadal Train station or the Sagrado Corazon train station and there with your student ID you can get the train/bus card and with that train/bus card you pay only half fare on the buses and train.

Take care, welcome to Puerto Rico and best of wishes in your studies.
