Question:

Will I lose my secret clearance?

I am in the process of receiving a secret clearance from the DOD for a contract position. I have already received my DOJ Select Agent clearance and my interim DOD clearance (with one prior misdemeanor). Last week I got in an arguement with my fiance and ended up breaking a window (found out she was cheating, it was the best I could do to not wring her neck). I got a 1st degree misdemeanor and was only cited for the window (criminal damaging). I pled not guilty because I got a written letter from her saying I had permission to break the window (it was her fault really) and sent in the receipt for repairing it. It looks like its going to be reduced at least (if not dropped)... but I am still worried about my clearance (good job). Since I have my interim already, does that help my chances? And worst case scenario, if it goes in the books as the 1st degree misdemeanor will I lose my clearance? I should state I do have one previous misdemeanor (walking down the street with a trashcan, stupid I know) but no drugs, alcohol mental problems etc.

  1. Your girlfriend was cheating and you lost your cool. It's understandable. As long as you don't have a serious charge against you, you shouldn't lose clearance. h**l, most (if not all) of congress and the US president have been charged with worse.
