Will I need a passport going across the border to Mexico?

I will be driving across but just to the border town (Tijuana, Nuevo Laredo).

If I do need a passport, how long does it take to get one?

  1. You got 2 wrong answers.  You need a passport to fly to and from Mexico.  You do NOT need a passport to travel to Mexico by LAND or SEA.  see website below and read top half of page carefully for the current info.   Date for needing passports for LAND travel has not been set yet.


  2. Yes, as of January 2008, you need a passport...it can take up to 3 months to receive your passport (it only took me a month, though) if you need it more rapidly, you can go directly to a passport processing agency and get it same day, or pay to get a rush on it.

  4. No you will not need one to go to Mexico, but coming back from Mexico you will need a passport.

    It only took me exactly two weeks from the time I filled out my paperwork till it was in my mailbox and I did not pay extra for the express service.  This is the slow time of the year for passports.
