Will I need to buy a new TV when DVB-T2 is introduced?

I'm looking at buying a new TV and I'm deciding whether or not its worth going for an expensive one or not.

I've noticed that the DVB-T2 standard is being planned. Would my current TV (Freeview compatible) or any new TV that I buy be able to pick up DVB-T2 signals when it is introduced or would a new reciever be required?

I don't want to spend a fortune on a TV that will be obsolete in 5 or 6 years.

  1. No.

  2. DVB tuners are upgradable by software downloads, if the T@ standard is introduced then it would upgrade the existing DVB tuners by a software upgrade to allow it to work.

Most should be capable of this but maybe the really old ones from pre 2002 may not be able to as they relied on a Card to work.

better buy a TV with a DVB tuner than a analogue portable that wont work past next april!!
