Will I need to rent a car for my vacation in Belfast?

I will be spending 3 days in Belfast in late September. Is it recommended to rent a car?

Not really unless you want to sit in traffic on the West Link etc just do what the other posters have said get the bus Translink do bus's and trains all over north and south also you can get a map from the Belfast welcome centre in Donegall Place facing the front of the city hall the centre will also give you information on guided tours around the city have a nice time and enjoy your trip.

It depends on if you want to leave Belfast to go somewhere specific.

Belfast is a good sized compact city.  It is very walkable and the public transpost system is excellent.  There are frequent buses and trains.  Taxi cabs are also a popular around Beflast.  There is a cab stand in front of City Hall in the City Centre as well as outside the Europa Hotel where you can get a cab and it should only cost a couple of pounds to get anywhere downtown.

If you want to do touristy things such as the Giants Causeway you can do that on public transport or book on a tour at the Belfast Welcome Center http://www.gotobelfast.com/

There is good public transport that will take you to/from the airports also.

I would think, unless you are heading out of the city that you really would not need a car. I usually walk everywhere or get a bus if its raining.

Well if you want to explore Belfast and beyond then a car would benefit you, If you will be coming from the international airport there is a bus that runs directly from the airport to the city centre for £5-8 per person and then they are many bus services and taxis to bring you to your accommodation.
